Granada

If Florence was the perfect start to PPH last year, then a bit of brushing up on the Islamic occupation of Europe before starting the Medieval History course seems just as good.  But actually there are lots of other reasons for going to Granada, including:

Tapas and the Spanish party atmosphere

We soon discovered that the tapas bars were where the locals ate, so were better food and cheaper than the tourist filled restaurants... We had some fabulous food, particulalry the fried fish.

Amazing city squares....

I have seen places as lovely as the Pl St Miguel Bajos, but they have been in Dordogne villages not cities!

Moorish architecture....

This is the Alhambra, but there are lovely Moorish building dotted around the city, all featuring the intricate lacework plaster you can see in this picture from the Nastrid Palaces.

Brilliant graffiti....

Well, we liked it anyway....

Weird saint-based catholicism....

The churches seemed to be very saint-heavy, with a distinct tendency towards parading their statues around the city.  Also, many streets have these plaques on them.  They appear to be quite recent, so if anyone knows what they are there for, do let me know....

Oh, and the Alhambra

Which is indescribable....
